My True Colour

Monday, April 17th, 2006

There are times when doing online tests seem heaps more interesting that doing what I should be doing… I rationalize my actions (to push aside guilt) by telling myself that it’s for my own good… It’s a method that helps pave my efforts towards understanding myself that much better… A way to know who I really am inside… Heh… It’s days like these that I cut myself some slack for deceiving myself… *grin*

Anyways… A friend of mine sent me the link to an online test and voila! Especially catered for you lazy folks out there who think that clicking on a link is “hard work” - nah! This was the outcome: -

———————————————–
Pamela, your true colour is Brown!
———————————————–

You’re brown, a credible, stable colour that’s reminiscent of fine wood, rich leather, and wistful melancholy. Most likely, you’re a logical, practical person ruled more by your head than your heart. With your inquisitive mind and insatiable curiosity, you’re probably a great problem solver. And you always gather all of the facts before coming to a timely, informed decision. Easily intrigued, you’re constantly finding new ways to challenge your mind, whether it’s by reading the newspaper, playing a trivia game, or composing a piece of music. Brown is an impartial, neutral colour, which means you tend to see the difference between fact and opinion easily and are open to many points of view. Trustworthy and steady, you really are a brown at heart.

Eh, not bad leh… I think it’s pretty accurate… My friend’s colour was accurate, too! Go ahead… Try it! And don’t forget to tell me what colour you are… =p

One Moment More

Friday, April 14th, 2006

Artist: Mindy Smith
Song Title: One Moment More

Hold me
Even though I know you’re leaving
And show me
All the reasons you would stay
It’s just enough to feel your breath on mine
To warm my soul and ease my mind
You’ve got to hold me and show me now

Give me
Just one part of you to cling to
And keep me
Everywhere you are
It’s just enough to steal my heart and run
And fade out with the falling sun

Oh, please don’t go
Let me have you just one moment more
Oh, all I need
All I want is just one moment more
You’ve got to hold me and keep me now

Tell me
That someday you’ll be returning
And maybe
Maybe I’ll believe
It’s just enough to see a shooting star
To know you’re never really far
It’s just enough to see a shooting star
To know you’re never really gone

Oh, please don’t go
Let me have you just one moment more
Oh, all I need
All I want is just one moment more

Oh, please don’t go
Let me have you just one moment more
Oh, all I need
All I want is just one moment more
You’ve got to hold me and maybe I’ll believe

So hold me
Even though I know you’re leaving

Love’s a funny thing… When lovers part ways, peculiar things happen… We end up wanting what we can’t have and we try our best to cling on in a desperate attempt to salvage whatever is left – whatever emotion, whatever feeling, whatever history that was once shared… Sigh… It’s kinda sad but it doesn’t stop us from doing it anyways… We want those we love to “hold us even though we know they’re leaving”… And we live in hopes that they will return one day… We’d like to believe that they would… Well, if you’re fortunate (and I sincerely hope you will be), that “One Day” actually comes for you… Unfortunately, oftentimes, it doesn’t… And all we’re left with are memories, disappointment, and a broken heart… Sigh… People deceive themselves… They always do…

A friend of mine asked me to take a listen a couple of days back… I downloaded it… The acoustic version… This song is pretty sad… The video’s sad too… It’s good stuff but not many people can take such depressive lyrics as often others… My kinda song… I swim in heartbreak music on a daily basis…

The Simplicity of Love

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

200348208001_1You know, it’s funny how men (meaning men and women) seem to enjoy complicating “love”… It’s almost like we, as human, find it hard to accept (or perhaps we simply reject) the simplicity of the notion of true love – love as it is without the drama, commotion or fuss… In one of the episodes of Smallville where Lex was to marry Dr Helen, Clark Kent - as best man - was to give a toast (a speech if you will) to the happy couple on their wedding day… Well, take a look at what he said: -

“I’ve been looking through every book from Socrates to Shakespeare trying to find someone who can put into words the way Lex and Helen feel about each other… But what I realised is, there are no words for it… That when you have it, you trust it… And you believe in it… You take a chance on it… You’re willing to sacrifice anything to keep it… No matter what the cost…

~ Smallville

So simple yet so profound… Deep, intense and insightful in so little words, to encompass feelings and emotions of such passion and zeal that are even bigger and more majestic than anything the mind could imagine… Beautiful in all ways said and beautiful in all its ways – such is love… Sigh…

Mmmbop

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

Artist: Hanson
Song Title: Mmmbop

You have so many relationships in this life
But only one or two will last
You go through all the pain and strife
Then you turn your back and they’re gone so fast

Oh yeah
They’re gone so fast

Oh, so hold on to the ones who really care
In the end they’ll be the only ones there
When you get old and start losing your hair
Can you tell me who will still care
Can you tell me who will still care (Oh care)

Mmmbop, ba duba dop ba do bop
Ba duba dop ba do bop
Ba duba dop ba do
Oh yeah
Mmmbop ba duba dop ba do bop
Ba duba dop ba do bop
Ba duba dop ba do

Oh yeah, in an mmmbop they’re gone
Yeah

Plant a seed, plant a flower, plant a rose
You can plant any one of those
Keep planting to find out which one grows
It’s a secret no one knows
It’s a secret no one knows
Oh, no one knows

(Repeat chorus twice)

This is one catchy tune… The kind that sticks in your head for weeks on end till you find another one to take its place… Haha… Considering the fact that the brothers were practically kids then, it’s damn good… A pretty big hit when I was younger… I remember the days alright… Haha… Girlie-lookin’ boys who played good music didn’t come by very often… =p

It’s interesting to note that even at that young age, they had a pretty accurate view of love and relationships… Look!

B000001es701_sclzzzzzzz_“So hold on to the ones who really care,
In the end they’ll be the only ones there.
When you get old and start losing your hair,
Can you tell me who will still care?”

So true… If you’re fortunate enough to know who really cares about you, hold on to ‘em cos they’ll be the ones who will be there with you through thick and thin, braving the weather and holding your hand in hope for better tomorrow… Such individuals don’t come by too often…

A couple of years back, Hanson paid Hard Rock, KL a visit and I was fortunate enough to be there to watch them rock the house… I remember still being a “sua ku” and being ever so fascinated by the never-seen-before transparent entrance stamp… Haha… Young and just a tad bodoh-bodoh… =p

Anyways, the brothers are fantastic, I tell you - FANTASTIC! Didn’t cost a bomb, too… If I’m not mistaken, we only paid RM25 each… And they played 14 songs! Super “tai” man… If only they came again… Oh well… Good times, good times…

What You’re Made Of

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

Artist: Lucie Silvas
Song Title: What You’re Made Of

Just like I predicted, we’re at the point of no return
We can’t go backwards, and no corners have been turned
I can’t control it, if I sink or if I swim
‘Cause I chose the waters that I’m in

And it makes no difference who is right or wrong
I deserve much more than this
‘Cause there’s only one thing I want

(Chorus)
If it’s not what you’re made of, you’re not what I’m looking for
You were willing but unable to give me anymore
There’s no way
You’re changing
‘Cause some things will just never be mine
You’re not in love this time
But it’s alright

I hear you talking, but your words don’t mean a thing
I doubt you ever put your heart in anything
It’s not much to ask for, to get back what I put in
But I chose the waters that I’m in

And it makes no difference who is right or wrong
I deserve much more than this
‘Cause there’s only one thing I want

(Chorus)
If it’s not what you’re made of, you’re not what I’m looking for
You were willing, but unable to give me anymore
There’s no way
You’re changing
‘Cause some things will just never be mine
You’re not in love this time
But it’s alright

What’s your definition of “The One”
What’d you really want him to become
No matter what I sacrifice, it’s still never enough

Just like I predicted, I will sink before I swim
‘Cause these are the waters that I’m in

(Chorus)
If it’s not what you’re made of, you’re not what I’m looking for
You were willing, but unable to give me anymore
There’s no way
You’re changing
‘Cause some things will just never be mine
You’re not in love this time

If it’s not what you’re made of, you’re not what I’m looking for
You were willing, but unable to give me anymore
There’s no way
You’re changing
‘Cause some things will just never be mine
You’re not in love this time
You’re not in love this time
You’re not in love this time

Was chatting to a friend last night (Was it last night? I can’t remember… Damn…) and we spoke about some L&R… Haha… It’s been awhile since anybody’s asked and while chatting, I realised that I actually had to think a little before answering! Interesting development, I must say… Hmmm…

Anyways, I should never settle for anything (more likely, any-ONE) less than I deserve… I should never settle for less, I should never settle for less, I should never settle for less… I WON’T settle for less… Heh…

Problems of the Flowery Kind

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

Oh dilema dilema… Turns out my “Flower Power!” post is earning me a lot of feedback… This post comes with the intention of clearing up all confusion…

Ahem… Here goes… You see, us Chinese folks don’t like giving it in the face; we don’t like laying all our cards down on the table all at once… We like saying things in rhyme to cause plenty of confusion from the hundreds of interpretations… That we do…

Roadside_wildflower_1Well, it turns out that there’s a very famous Chinese song that says 路边的野花不要采 (lu-4 bian-1 de-0 ye-3 hua-1 bu-2 yao-4 cai-3)… Now upgrade already… Presenting Mandarin equipped with proper han yu pin ying tones! Woo hoo! Anyways, this song totally ruined the Wildflower Invincibility Concept for me… Sigh… Apparently, a direct translation of this phrase is – “Roadside wan wild flower dun wan pluck”… This particular one is a warning to straying husbands so as not to pick up random girls as mistresses… In this case, the equation goes: -

A mistress / third party lady = A Ye Hua, a.k.a Wildflower…

Sigh… How now la, how now? Aiyo…

So… When I claimed to be a “Wildflower”, you can imagine my very literate Chinese-speaking friend’s worry… Haha… =p Uh oh, and uh oh big time at that! Si liao lar… The proverb 我是踩不死的野花! (i.e. wo shi cai bu si de ye hua!) now means: -

“I am a lady of the evening (and that’s putting it nicely, mind you) who will not relinquish her man no matter who and what (e.g. an angry wife running after me with a broom) tries to stop me!”

So? How now? I’ll tell you… Kantui lo!

Banana-Rama of the Flower Power!

Banana_1

Okay okay… You got me… My mandarin sucks big time… Happy now? I admit – I’m banana material… Just got input regarding my most recent post and, being the very teachable person I am (ahem ahem), I’m doing some editing to the post…

You see, 我是踩不死的野花! (i.e. wo shi cai bu si de ye hua!) does not directly translate to “I am plant cannot die wan wild flower!” Instead, it’s “I am STEP cannot die wan wild flower!” Woo hoo! This is a whole lot better than before… With the (very slightly) inaccurate translation, I had Endurability*… Now, I have…

*Jeng jeng jeng*

INVINCIBILITY! Yeah, man! I so rock…

* Apparently there is no such word in the Dictionary… Like whatever, man…

Flower Power!

Flower_house

Got me a new Chinese Proverb today! Made a swap with a friend of mine – exchanged the Cockroach for a Wildflower… She happened to need the “Power of the Roach”… Haha… Okay, fine… I’m being lame… But you know what? You really can’t blame me for it, you know… You are not to hold this against me… You see, after a load of assignments, an exam and seemingly endless sleepless nights, I believe in exclusive rights to being a tad lamer than the average blogger… Just close one eye, let it go and move on, will ya?

So… Introducing my newest self-applied proverb - 我是踩不死的野花! (i.e. wo shi cai bu si de ye hua!)… The direct translation to this would be, “I am plant cannot die wan wild flower!” Haha… As far as translations go, direct ones rock best… =) But of course, I’m supposed to PRETEND that my degree taught me ways to express myself in proper English… Hence, here goes: -

“Like a wildflower that plants its roots deep in the ground, I am able to withstand the worst of storms and the harshest of weather!”

It’s the wildflower equivalent of the roach story… You catch my drift… It’s a lot less disgusting this way though… Haha… Flower power, babes! Flower power…

Babi Kia

Piggy_bank_8

I’ve realised that I say “babi” quite a bit nowadays… Why - you ask me? I also dunno lar… Ish…

I remember a time in days gone by, when I used to say it, too… Babi you; babi this; babi that… Probably more often than I do now… Of course those were during my young-ER days… Days when I was still in a kid in high school, wearing my so-called Lai Lai Burmah uniform - so says Lousy Gap… It was during times when I said things like “stupiak” and “Did you know that people die everyday?” just for kicks… Don’t ask me why I did it… I just did… Weird kid, I was, I suppose… Heh… Funniest part was that people actually picked up on it! Haha… Plenty of weirdos around, I tell you…

Perhaps I’m going back to my yesteryears… Blast to the past… Down memory lane… Something to that effect… However you wanna put it, it boils down to the same thing… It shows that even as I age (albeit slower than many others), I am young… Still am… After all, someone recently said I look 18… =p Heh… Yeah yeah… You others, eat your heart out…

Sigh… I really need to wean myself off this habit once again… Babi…

* Realised my posts have been pretty “heavy” stuff so far… Hmmm… Here’s to lighter posts in days to come! *clink*

A Cockroach, I Am

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

Zhang_lang

我是打不死的蟑螂! (i.e. wo shi da bu si de zhang lang!) Woo hoo! Haha… That translates directly into “I am beat cannot die wan cockroach!” Haha… Broken English rocks, man… =p Okay fine… I’ll put my degree into use and do a proper translation of the proverb: -

“Like a cockroach that cannot be killed with the many blows it receives, I am unbeatable when faced with struggles, trials and tribulations!”

Was “given” this Chinese Proverb just minutes ago and I think I’d like to make it my personal pucker-me-up self-motto… Thanks, babe! You know who you are… =)
